A true visionary, Justin conceptualized Be More Heroic. Beyond being a fearless leader, Justin is an accomplished Singer/Songwriter and Filmmaker. Justin’s artistic ability to evoke strong emotion through music and media has played a vital role within the organization and continues to open the hearts of many everyday.

Justin’s passion to create a more accepting and compassionate world in a progressive way has resulted in the rapid growth of BMH since it’s inception.

To Justin, be more heroic is spreading light by simply using your gifts to serve all beings.


Sierra Dowd


Founding member Sierra is an accomplished businesswoman and humanitarian. Throughout her career in PR and Production Merchandising Sierra has executed several award-winning campaigns and produced profitable Fashion segments on networks such as E!, Extra and Telemundo.

With this experience Sierra brings invaluable business and communications knowledge to BMH. It is Sierra’s unquestionable dedication to equality and social change that has propelled Be More Heroic into the national movement it is today.What be more heroic means to Sierra is the simple act of true compassion for all.


JR Foto


JR is a high fashion, couture photographer with a passion for fashion and life. JR’s talents have landed his media and fashion photography business, j|r foto, at the American Music Awards and Golden Globes along with some of the largest campaigns in the business.

Although JR continues to work with campaigns as large as CHANEL Inc., Dick Clark Productions, and Madisonpark Collective, he still manages to find time to dedicate to BMH.

His invaluable photography and website design expertise has given BMH the very digital presence witnessed today. To JR, Being More Heroic is striving to live life everyday as an example of truth.

Ginny Sorensen

Ginny Sorensen


Ginny is the proud mother of Savanna Raven. Raising Savanna to be the best person she can be is Ginny’s main focus in life. She works in information technology and volunteers with animal rescues and Be More Heroic.

Ginny works hard as a single mother, always trying to lead by example to teach Savanna Raven how to be a strong, independent, and successful person in everything she chooses to do.

Ginny believes, be more heroic means to stand up for what is right and to make an effort in any way possible be the change, to be a part of the solution. Be more heroic means to step out of your comfort zone for the sake of someone (or something) else.


Krystina Gillenwater


Founding member Krystina has spent her career developing powerful, engaging content strategy and partnerships to serve the social media needs of a wide range of clients from luxury automotive brands to beauty supply companies.
Her experience with both agency and freelance public relations makes her versatile and invaluable.
Her measured, approach to non-profit social media has enabled BMH to grow its brand awareness by establishing a solid reputation and connection with its supporters.

For Krystina, Be More Heroic is an organization that allows her to engage her head and her heart, to transform passion into action. For her there is no greater reward than seeing how her efforts positively affect people in need.


Lacey Rice

Lacey is a Senior Associate Lawyer at Ropers, Majeski, Kohn, & Bentley, one of the top Entertainment firms in Los Angeles,. She brings to the table invaluable transactional knowledge in the Television, Film, Gaming, Software and Technology fields as well as litigation in the areas of television, film production and business.

A passionate advocate for the LGBTQ Community, Lacey volunteers often with Team Equality to manage legal needs of the organization.

Lacey’s goal is to ensure Be More Heroic continues to grow in the most virtuous of ways.

Phoenix Schneider

Phoenix Schneider


Phoenix Schneider brings a diverse array of nonprofit and clinical experience to the Be More Heroic team including 15+ years in the areas of program development and counseling services. Phoenix’s consulting business, Coach Phoenix, provides training and coaching to individuals and nonprofits throughout the country. Phoenix joined Jewish Family and Children’s Service (JFCS) in December 2013 to develop a comprehensive program for the LGBTQ community and their families in Philadelphia. During Phoenix’s six years as the Program Director with The Trevor Project, Phoenix helped build the programmatic infrastructure for a nationwide safety net of online emotional support programming for LGBTQ youth. Phoenix enjoys volunteering to promote animal rights/welfare and advocates for a pro-compassionate world.

To Be More Heroic to Phoenix is to bravely embrace and share your unique voice through a diverse spectrum of creative expression and action and to be a lifelong agent of compassion and change.


Amy Rangel


Amy is a versatile and creative professional, bringing 10+ years of human resources knowledge to the BMH team, including an PHR/SPHR certification. From the Trevor Project to Warner Brothers and now Razorfish, Amy has successfully developed robust procedures while revamping and streamlining company’s processes. Amy’s big heart, and long string of experience is truly helping BMH reach its full potential.

Amy has made it a personal mission to educate and foster a safe environment for youth everywhere.

Shay Magro

Shay Magro


Shay joins the BMH team bringing her extensive experience and passion as a digital user experience designer and professional musician. From R/GA to ESPN to PlayNetwork, Shay has successfully launched both web and mobile products that enable brands to connect more effectively with their customers. Shay also leverages her branding and design skills to better connect with the fans of her alt-rock band, Love Darling, in which she is the lead singer and guitarist. The band’s most recent accomplishments include winning the Independent Music Award for Best Indie Alt-Rock album, and having several of their songs licensed for TV and film, including their single, Hazy, chosen as the theme song for the Showtime series, The Real L Word.

Shay hopes to help elevate Be More Heroic’s empowering message by creating digital experiences that connect and inspire people to take positive action and “be more”…
